Bali + Sumba Combo Package: Experience the Best of Indonesia

Combining Bali and Sumba creates the perfect Indonesian holiday — the cultural richness and convenience of Bali paired with the pristine exclusivity and extraordinary horse riding of Sumba. This combo approach gives you the best of both worlds: world-famous temples, rice terraces, and nightlife on Bali, followed by deserted beaches, ancient traditions, and Sandalwood Pony adventures on Sumba.

Why Combine Bali and Sumba?

Convenience: Most international visitors arrive in Indonesia through Bali. Adding Sumba requires only a 1-hour domestic flight, making it easy to extend your trip without complex logistics.

Contrast: Bali and Sumba offer complementary experiences. Where Bali can feel busy and commercial, Sumba delivers solitude and authenticity. Where Sumba’s infrastructure is developing, Bali provides every comfort imaginable. Together, they present a complete picture of Indonesia’s incredible diversity.

Value: Starting or ending in Bali allows you to shop for souvenirs, enjoy spa treatments, and experience nightlife that Sumba does not yet offer — making your overall trip more well-rounded.

Best Surf Breaks Near Our Riding Trails

Sumba is home to some of Indonesia’s most legendary surf breaks, many located within riding distance of our stables. The most famous is the left-hander at Nihiwatu, consistently ranked among the world’s top ten waves. But Sumba’s surf scene extends far beyond this single break — there are dozens of reef and beach breaks along the southwest coast, many of them uncrowded and accessible only by horse trail or boat. Our combo package positions you perfectly to catch morning waves before afternoon rides, or surf at sunset after a full day in the saddle.

Sample Combo Itinerary

A typical day on the surf-and-ride combo begins with a dawn surf session at a nearby break, guided by our local surf instructor who knows the tides and currents intimately. After a beachside breakfast, you mount up for a 2-3 hour coastal ride exploring beaches and clifftop trails. Lunch is served at a shaded seaside spot. The afternoon offers a choice: a second surf session, a swim with horses in a calm bay, or simply relaxing at your lodge. This flexible structure means no two days are identical, and the balance between ocean and saddle keeps both body and mind engaged throughout your stay.

Skill Requirements

No prior surfing experience is needed — our instructors cater to all levels from complete beginners to advanced surfers. Similarly, the riding portion is suitable for all experience levels with our well-trained Sandalwood Ponies. The combo package is available in 3-day, 5-day, and 7-day formats, with surfboard and equipment included.

Do I need to bring my own surfboard?

No. We provide a selection of boards suitable for all skill levels, from soft-top learner boards to performance shortboards. Advanced surfers are welcome to bring their own equipment if they prefer.
