The Journey of a Lifetime

Ten days on Sumba is not just a holiday — it is a transformative journey. This expedition covers the entire island on horseback, from the dramatic western cliffs to the wild eastern grasslands, through hidden waterfalls, sacred villages, and landscapes that have remained unchanged for millennia. You will cover approximately 200km on horseback, sleep under stars in our luxury safari camps, participate in traditional ceremonies, and develop a bond with your Sandalwood horse that transcends the typical tourist experience. This is the package chosen by National Geographic photographers, documentary filmmakers, and serious adventurers who want the complete Sumba story.

Why Sumba for Your Honeymoon

While Bali and the Maldives dominate honeymoon search results, discerning couples are discovering that Sumba offers something neither can match — complete privacy in a destination of extraordinary natural beauty, combined with an adventure that bonds you together in ways a poolside holiday never could. Imagine riding side by side along a deserted beach at sunset, with no other tourists for kilometres in any direction. That is a Sumba Horse honeymoon.

Exclusive Honeymoon Inclusions

Beyond the standard riding package, our honeymoon guests receive private rides (no other guests in your group), a beachside candlelit dinner for two with locally sourced seafood and Indonesian wine, professional couple’s photography during golden hour rides, a handwoven Sumba ikat set as a wedding gift, upgraded luxury accommodation throughout, late checkout on departure day, and a spa treatment for two at your lodge. Every detail is designed to create moments you will remember for the rest of your lives together.

Riding Experience Not Required

Many honeymoon couples have never ridden before, and that is perfectly fine. Our Sandalwood Ponies are gentle, patient, and extraordinarily well-trained. Your private guide will start with a thorough orientation, and within an hour, most couples are confidently walking along the beach together. By day two, many are cantering. There is something uniquely romantic about learning a new skill together — it creates shared memories and inside jokes that last a lifetime.

Can we combine the honeymoon package with Bali?

Absolutely. Many couples spend 5–7 days in Bali followed by 3–5 days in Sumba. Direct flights between Bali and Tambolaka take approximately one hour. We can coordinate with your Bali accommodation to create a seamless multi-destination honeymoon itinerary.
