Photography Tour Packages

All three include a professional photographer riding with the group.

Golden Hour Beach Shoot

Golden Hour Beach Shoot

Sunset light on Sumba's beaches. You ride the coast through the most photogenic hour of the day while the photographer works you from multiple angles.

Cultural Photo Tour

Cultural Photo Tour

Village architecture, weavers at their looms and megalithic tombs, shot with permission arranged in advance by your guide.

Multi-Day Expedition

Multi-Day Expedition

Several days across beach, savanna and highland, timed so every location is shot in its best light rather than whenever you arrive.

Where Photography Meets Horsemanship

A standard ride goes where the trail goes. A photography tour goes where the light is, and waits when it needs to.

Our photographers are riders themselves, which is the difference that matters. They know which angles flatter an equestrian subject, how to anticipate a horse's movement, and how to position a group so nobody ends up behind a tail.

Every image is professionally edited and delivered digitally within 48 hours.

What Makes These Tours Different

Riding ability is not the entry requirement here — the photographs are. Beginners get extra instruction and gentle horses that also happen to look beautiful on camera.

If photography is the point of your trip, take a five-day package or longer. More days means more golden hours, which is the only variable that really governs the result.

  • Photographers who ride, not just shoot
  • Wear light flowing clothing that moves
  • White, cream and earth tones photograph best
  • Bring your own gear — waterproof bags provided
  • Backup equipment carried by the photographer
  • Edited files delivered within 48 hours

Best Locations, and What You Can Do With the Images

The strongest backdrops on the island: the wide deserted beaches of West Sumba where horses gallop through shallow surf, the hilltop Marapu villages with their peaked roofs, and the open savanna ridgelines of the east in early or late light.

Photos from your trip are yours to use personally, including on social media. Commercial use — publication, advertising — needs a licensing conversation with our team, and we accommodate most requests.

Guides on every ride will happily take photographs for you at no cost. The paid tours exist for when you want a photographer working, not a guide helping.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a good rider?

No. Photo tours take all riding levels. Beginners get extra instruction, and we choose gentle horses that photograph well while giving a comfortable ride.

Can I bring my own camera equipment?

Absolutely. We provide waterproof bags and secure mounting options. Our photographer also carries backup gear if you would rather ride hands-free and let us shoot.

Can I use the photos commercially?

Personal use, including social media, is yours. For publication or advertising, talk to our team about licensing — we accommodate most requests.
