Weekuri is a crystal-clear saltwater lagoon ringed by limestone cliffs, fed through underground channels that connect it to the Indian Ocean. It looks digitally enhanced in photographs and does not disappoint in person.
The standard route departs our southwest Sumba base in the morning, following old pathways through the village of Pero and across elevated grassland with long coastal views.
The journey is roughly ninety minutes each way, which makes this a half-day excursion where the ride is genuinely half the point.

Practical Information
Weekuri is in Sumba Barat Daya, roughly two hours by horseback from our base. It is accessible year round, though water clarity peaks in the dry season from April to October.
The lagoon is calm saltwater with no current or waves. Depth runs from knee-deep at the edges to three or four metres in the middle, and the water sits at a consistent 27–29°C.

The Route and the Season
The trail passes through coastal villages and a run of viewpoints along elevated grassland, so the journey earns its place rather than simply delivering you to the lagoon.
The dry season from April to October gives the clearest water and the most comfortable riding temperatures. In the wet season the surrounding landscape turns green and dramatic, at the cost of some clarity in the lagoon itself.
The lagoon connects to the ocean through a narrow channel in the cliff — you can see and hear the surf from inside the water, which is a large part of why the place feels the way it does.
