Before You Book

This is a sightseeing trip. The scheduled programme is villages, waterfalls, hills and beaches — it does not include horse riding. If you would like a ride added, ask us and we will tell you what is possible around your dates.

Meeting point is Tambolaka Airport (TMC) in Southwest Sumba, or a nearby hotel. Arrive the day before, or on the day by 12:00 PM WITA. The trip finishes at Waingapu Airport (WGP) in East Sumba from 11:00 WITA, so book your outbound flight from Waingapu rather than Tambolaka — this catches people out.

Because this is private, there is no minimum group to wait for and no fixed departure date. Tell us your dates and your group size, and we will confirm the rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the private trip and the open trip?

On a private trip the vehicle, driver and tour leader are yours alone, it runs on your dates with as few as two people, and the schedule can flex. The open trip is a shared departure on fixed dates at a single per-person rate, with a four-person minimum.

Which length should I choose?

Four days covers the headline destinations. Five adds Purukambera savanna and Lapopu Waterfall with a more relaxed pace. Six adds Matayangu and Weekacura waterfalls, Waikelo Rice Field and Mondu Hill, and gives you a second night in the southwest instead of rushing east.

Why does the price per person go up at five and nine travellers?

The rate steps with vehicle capacity rather than falling smoothly. Message us with your exact group size before booking and we will confirm the figure — and tell you whether adding or dropping one traveller changes it.

Which airport do I fly into and out of?

In to Tambolaka (TMC) in Southwest Sumba, out of Waingapu (WGP) in East Sumba. They are different airports about four hours apart by road — the trip crosses the island, so a return ticket to Tambolaka will not work.

Does it include horse riding?

No. The scheduled itinerary is sightseeing — villages, waterfalls, savanna and beaches. Riding can be discussed separately around your dates.

How demanding is it?

Medium to heavy. There is trekking to waterfalls over uneven ground, hill climbs, and sunrise starts at 5:00 am on the final day of the five and six-day routes. No specialist fitness is needed, but it is more active than the open trip.
