On Sumba, the distance between your bed and the horses decides how your day starts. A lodge forty-five minutes from the stable turns a sunrise beach ride into a 4am alarm.
So we sort accommodation by tier and by position rather than by star rating. Every multi-day package includes a stay, and every property we use is vetted for cleanliness, safety and proximity to the trails you will actually be riding.
All tiers include breakfast, and all are within fifteen to forty-five minutes of our riding locations.
The numbers that actually change your day.

Whichever tier you choose, these are constants rather than upgrades.
We book on your behalf so that the accommodation, the transfers and the riding schedule are one plan rather than three.
For beach riding and horse swimming, stay on the southwestern coast near Pero or Kerewei. You will be riding from the door rather than from a car park.
For mountain trails and village routes, the central highlands near Waikabubak put you closest to the ground you came for. For East Sumba's grasslands and Walakiri, base in or near Waingapu — it is four hours from the west, so treat it as a separate leg rather than a day trip.
If you want both coast and interior, take a multi-day package and let us move you between regions. Sumba is large and its roads are slow; commuting from a single base costs you more riding hours than most people expect.
For orientation, the island's best-known properties are Nihi Sumba and Lelewatu on the western coast, Maringi in the Kodi region, and the Sumba Hospitality Foundation near Tambolaka, which is a hotel school and worth knowing about for that reason alone.
Yes. Both the open trip and the private trip include hotels on a twin-share basis for every night of the trip. On the open trip a private or couple room is available for a USD 99 supplement, subject to availability.
Fifteen to forty-five minutes. Multi-day packages include daily transfers between your lodge and that day's starting point, and some properties let us bring the horses to them directly.
Yes. Tell us where you are staying and we will build the riding schedule and transfers around it. We will also tell you honestly if the location is going to cost you early starts.
