Sumba has been called the Hawaii of Indonesia, and the comparison holds where it matters: beaches, hills and waterfalls, with almost nobody there. If Bali or Komodo have started to feel crowded, this is the alternative.
This is the private version. You are not waiting for a minimum group to fill, you are not sharing a car, and the schedule bends to you — a longer stop at Tanggedu, an earlier start for the light at Tanau Hill.
Choose four, five or six days. Each length adds destinations rather than stretching the same ones thinner: 5D4N brings in Purukambera savanna and Lapopu Waterfall, and 6D5N adds Matayangu, Weekacura, Waikelo Rice Field and Mondu Hill.
Grouped into the three landscapes, with the longer trips reaching further into each.
Private trips are priced by group size — the more of you, the less each pays, because the vehicle and guide are shared between you rather than between strangers. The rate steps with vehicle capacity rather than falling smoothly, so message us with your exact group size before booking.

Hotels are on a twin-share basis. The properties below are the ones used on this route; an equivalent may be substituted.
Southwest Sumba
The standard first night on every length, close to Tambolaka Airport and the Ratenggaro and Pero Beach side of the island.
Southwest Sumba
A second Southwest Sumba option on the same side of the island. Ask which of the two your dates fall on.
East Sumba
In Waingapu, positioned for Tanarara savanna, the waterfalls and Walakiri Beach on the later days of every length.
West Sumba · upgrade
A clifftop resort above the Indian Ocean, available on this route as an upgrade rather than as standard. Ask for the supplement.
This route involves more trekking than the open trip. Pack for sun, water, uneven ground and no signal.
This is a sightseeing trip. The scheduled programme is villages, waterfalls, hills and beaches — it does not include horse riding. If you would like a ride added, ask us and we will tell you what is possible around your dates.
Meeting point is Tambolaka Airport (TMC) in Southwest Sumba, or a nearby hotel. Arrive the day before, or on the day by 12:00 PM WITA. The trip finishes at Waingapu Airport (WGP) in East Sumba from 11:00 WITA, so book your outbound flight from Waingapu rather than Tambolaka — this catches people out.
Because this is private, there is no minimum group to wait for and no fixed departure date. Tell us your dates and your group size, and we will confirm the rate.
On a private trip the vehicle, driver and tour leader are yours alone, it runs on your dates with as few as two people, and the schedule can flex. The open trip is a shared departure on fixed dates at a single per-person rate, with a four-person minimum.
Four days covers the headline destinations. Five adds Purukambera savanna and Lapopu Waterfall with a more relaxed pace. Six adds Matayangu and Weekacura waterfalls, Waikelo Rice Field and Mondu Hill, and gives you a second night in the southwest instead of rushing east.
The rate steps with vehicle capacity rather than falling smoothly. Message us with your exact group size before booking and we will confirm the figure — and tell you whether adding or dropping one traveller changes it.
In to Tambolaka (TMC) in Southwest Sumba, out of Waingapu (WGP) in East Sumba. They are different airports about four hours apart by road — the trip crosses the island, so a return ticket to Tambolaka will not work.
No. The scheduled itinerary is sightseeing — villages, waterfalls, savanna and beaches. Riding can be discussed separately around your dates.
Medium to heavy. There is trekking to waterfalls over uneven ground, hill climbs, and sunrise starts at 5:00 am on the final day of the five and six-day routes. No specialist fitness is needed, but it is more active than the open trip.
Send your group size and the length you have in mind, and we will come back with an exact price.
